ēllu gives you the ability to share your location with other ēllu users through the use of its location-based features. Two types of locations exist within the App that users can choose to grant access to or not and if granted can always change later in the location permissions section of their phone settings.

Real-time location

Permits you to share your location all the time with participants in individual and group settings, in ēllu’s case chats. This allows your contacts to view your real-time progression in the map. Your location will only be monitored and shared with whom you choose, even when you're not navigating the app and will stop as soon as you end the feature that you activated. Bear in mind that your location will ONLY be used when these features are activated and accepted by you. Those invited to participate (could be you also), will need to “accept” the feature invitation before participating, meaning your location will only be visible and monitored once you have “accepted”. This app collects location data to enable Aware, SOS, Proximity & Real Time location even when the app is closed or not in use.

Static location

Permits you to share a one-time snapshot of your location at a particular point in time with other contacts in the app. Importantly, sending your static location does not share your location in real-time. It is a one time sharing event of a particular location. Features not requiring real-time location will work with users just granting Static location permissions. Features requiring static location are: Let’s Meet and Static location.

It is important to note that the main purpose when using these features, is to know the location of the User and allow other users, authorized by you, to know your location. To benefit fully from these features and ensure their proper functioning, it is important that users have activated their geolocation permissions. Remember that you can edit your location settings at any time in your phone’s settings menu.

Granting Location permissions

You will be asked to activate it through a series of notifications in the app when accessing the feature for the first time or by entering your phone settings and turning location permissions to “ON”.

To enable location permissions for ēllu in your phone’s settings:

  • Android: Enter Settings > Apps > ēllu > Permissions > Location > select “Allow all the time”.

  • IOS: Enter Settings > ēllu > Permissions > Location > select “Always”.

Disabling Location permissions

To disable your location permissions you will be asked to enter your phone settings and turn location permissions to “OFF”.

To disable location permissions for ēllu in your phone’s settings:

  • Android: Enter Settings > Apps > ēllu > Permissions > Location > select “Don’t allow”.

  • IOS: Enter Settings > ēllu > Permissions > Location > select “Never”.

We respect your privacy and understand your concerns. We assure you that your location will only be shared while the feature is active with the contacts you selected. At no point do we track or sell your data to third parties. We request these permissions strictly for the purposes of being able to optimize your experience when using any of the location-based features. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. Remember that you can edit your location settings at any time in your phone’s settings menu. To use this feature, select “Go to settings” and grant location permissions, choose “Allow all the time”.

If you need any further clarification or you still have doubts about the location permissions, remember that you can write to us at ayuda@ellu.app or if you are already a user, also from the chat that you will find within ēllu app.
