You can enable or disable them for each Place and customize them for each participant.
Are Smart Alerts enabled by default?
Yes.
When you create a Place, Smart Alerts are enabled by default, so you can start receiving notifications without any additional setup.
If you prefer, you can change or disable them at any time.
How do I turn off all Smart Alerts for a Place?
In the Places list, you'll find a 🔔 toggle next to each Place.
Simply turn it off to stop receiving notifications for that Place.
This only affects your device. Other Circle members will continue receiving their own alerts if they have them enabled.
How do I configure alerts for a specific person?
Within a Place's Smart Alerts settings, you can choose for each Circle participant to:
Receive a notification when they arrive at the Place.
Receive a notification when they leave the Place.
Receive both notifications.
Receive no notifications.
This allows you to customize alerts for each individual Circle member.
What happens if I disable Smart Alerts for a Place?
You will stop receiving notifications when people enter or leave that Place.
However, the activity will still appear under Maps > Smart Alerts 🔔, where you can view the event history.
Can I enable them again later?
Yes.
You can re-enable Smart Alerts for a Place at any time from the Places list or from that Place's settings screen.
Can other people see if I have Smart Alerts enabled for them?
Yes.
Circle members can see that they are being monitored for a specific Place, although they cannot disable it themselves. If they do not want to share their location, they can pause their location sharing within the Circle.
