What are Places?
Places let you mark important locations within a Circle (such as Home, Work, Gym, or a family member’s house) so that all members can see them on the map.
Plus, when you mark a Place on the map, you’ll receive Smart Alerts letting you know when other people in your Circle arrive at or leave those places.
How do I create a Place?
From the Maps screen:
Tap the pin icon on the bottom bar.
Select Add Place.
Choose the location on the map.
Give it a name.
Select an icon and a color.
Adjust the location’s radius (how large an area you want the location to cover).
Once created, the location is shared with all Circle members.Tap the pin icon in the bottom navigation bar.
Who can create or delete a Place?
Only the person who created the place can delete it.
When a place is deleted, it disappears for the entire circle, and all associated Smart Alerts are disabled.
If the creator leaves the circle, the place is automatically deleted.
Can I edit a Place?
Yes, but with some limitations:
You can edit the name, icon, and color.
You cannot change the location or the radius of the Place.
What are Smart Alerts for Places?
Smart Alerts notify you when someone in your Circle:
Arrives at a place.
Leaves a place.
You can choose:
Which places you want to follow.
Which people you want to follow for each place.
How do I enable Smart Alerts for a Place?
When you create a Place, Smart Notifications are automatically enabled, but within the Place you can:
Choose whether to mute all alerts for that Place (temporarily, for example).
Select the people in the Circle you want to follow.
Enable or disable notifications for when people enter, leave, or both.
Additionally, under Maps > Bell 🔔, you can view all Smart Notifications related to Places.
Can I stop receiving Smart Alerts for a Place?
Yes.
You can turn them off at any time from the Place settings (Map > Places icon > Alert Bell 🔔
This only affects your settings, not the other members of the Circle.
Do others know if I’m receiving Smart Alerts?
Yes.
People in your Circle can see that you have Smart Alerts enabled for their activity at that Place, but they can’t turn them off directly (they can only stop sharing their location by using the Pause button on the map).
What happens when someone arrives at or leaves a Place?
When someone enters or leaves a place with Smart Alerts enabled:
You'll receive a real-time notification.
The notification will show who arrived or left.
What size can Places be?
Each place has a configurable radius between:
100 meters (minimum)
500 meters (maximum)
This radius determines when someone is considered to have arrived at or left the place.
What happens if I'm offline?
You can still use Places while offline:
You can create, edit, and delete places offline.
Changes will sync automatically when you're back online.
You cannot enable or disable Smart Alerts while offline.
Events will be sent automatically once your connection is restored.
What happens if I leave a Circle?
When you leave a Circle:
All your places and related settings are removed.
You stop receiving and sending Smart Alerts for Places.
The rest of the Circle will no longer see your activity related to those places.
Can I use Places in multiple Circles?
Yes.
Each Circle has its own independent Places and Smart Alert settings.
What happens if someone new joins the Circle?
When a new member joins a Circle that already has Places:
They will automatically see all existing places.
They can enable Smart Alerts immediately.
The system synchronizes the information so everyone sees the same places.
What information can I see for a Place?
For each Place, you can view:
The name of the Place.
Its location on the Map.
People with active Smart Alerts for that Place.
The current status of Smart Alerts.
