At ēllu, your privacy and security come first, which is why we want to give you an extra layer of control over who can message you or add you to groups, helping you avoid unwanted contact from strangers. Use parental control to lock these settings so that no one can change them without your consent.
This new control is available from version 1.13 onwards and is enabled by default. If you want to change the settings, we explain it below.
Where can I find it in the app?:
Side menu → Settings & Privacy → Contact Privacy → Contact Privacy Settings
What is this option for?
It allows you to decide whether people who are not in your contacts can send you messages or add you to group chats.
How do the selection options work?
Who can start a chat with me? Choose between:
Everyone: people outside your contacts can send you messages or add you to groups.
My contacts people outside your contacts cannot message you or add you to groups.
Which groups can I be added to?
Allow users to add me to groups with unknown contacts: your contacts can add you to groups that include people not in your contacts.
Don't allow users to add me to groups with unknown contacts: your contacts cannot add you to groups with people who are not in your contacts.
⚠️ These settings only apply to new chats or groups created after you change them.

What is the Parental Control option?
Parental control locks access to the settings with a PIN so that no one can change them without your permission. It is designed especially to protect minors and prevent them from changing these settings.
How to activate it:
Side menu → Settings & Privacy → Contact Privacy → Parental Control
→ Step 1: set a PIN code.
→ Step 2: confirm the PIN code.
→ Step 3: set a PIN recovery email.
→ Step 4: confirm the recovery email.
